Space Renaissance International – Expanding Humanity into Space – International Cooperation Youth Event

The Space Renaissance Manifesto explains a perspective about a future in which humanity failed to expand into outer space. This future was called the closed world scenario. The closed world future is a retreat of civilization because the human population has passed (or near passing) the carrying capacity of Earth. Lack of natural resources, and global warming will lead to a lack of opportunities and economic and political crisis. Humanity will enter a spiral of deterioration and therefore, an existential threat for humanity. The manifesto expressed that the true nightmare will be the lack of any hope. The youth are the future and the hope. The youth today see the rapid reduction of launching cost and the rush to the moon as opportunities and motivation for a better future.

The Towards Young Generation Committee will host its first event “Expanding Humanity to Space – International Cooperation”. The aim of the event is to communicate astronautical humanism concepts to the young generation.

Objectives of the Event:

1- Spread awareness about the urgency of the expansion of human civilization into outer space.
2- Identify challenges and obstacles facing the expansion into outer space.
3- Provide space capacity building for the new generation.

The Challenge:

To write a proposal for a feasibility study (Phase A project), for an O’Neill Infrastructure located at a Moon-Earth Lagrange Point. The details, and the Statement of Work,  will be revealed during the workshop.

Event Concept:

SRI will call students and young professionals from 18 – 35 years old to participate in the event. They can join as teams of 2-4 or as individuals. Everyone should submit a CV and a letter of motivation to be selected. Flexibility will be considered to select either more or less teams based on the size of the hosting platform. It is planned that the event will be fully online.
Space Renaissance International will provide educational materials for the selected teams. Selected teams will be given the time to read and learn before the actual start of the event. This step is important because most young professionals and students are not exposed to advanced concepts related to expanding humanity to outer space. The educational materials will be focused on the mission statement. At the start of the event, a mission statement will be revealed, and teams will compete to submit the required deliverables by the end of the event.

Experts from SRI will attend the presentation session online. The presentation session will be a public event open for everyone to attend. Each team will be given a 15 minute presentation including 5 minutes for Q&A. SRI experts will select the winning team. The winning team will be granted a prize to be discussed in a later stage.
